We shared with you the story of the lady at the Mound
City Arts Festival who felt impressed to give Sister Anderson a pair of
mittens, after offering to pay for a Carmel apple order. We do not know what
prompted her to do that, she may have seen our missionary badges; maybe she
just wanted to do a good turn for somebody. We were also impressed with the way
she did it, she came out of her booth found Sister Anderson and said she had
been looking for her and wanted to give her something.
Anyway, here is the rest of the story. She has been on
our minds and Sister Anderson and I talked about trying to find out where she
lived and going to pay her a visit. We remembered she said something about
living outside of Drexel, Missouri which is about a 50 minute drive from where
we live. We asked a member of the branch who lives in Drexel to look at his
local directory to see if he could find someone with her last name. That effort
was not successful, so we contacted the people who run the Mound City Arts
festival to get her name and phone number.
We found out that she lives in Cleveland, Missouri which
is about 30 miles north of Drexel. We determined to pay this lady a visit and
give her a little treat “Carmel Popcorn Balls” Sister Anderson had made along
with a Book of Mormon and several pamphlets. We had a Branch social function in
Drexel yesterday but would also be going to Kansas City on Monday for a Senior
Missionary dinner. After going back and forth trying to decide whether to visit
this lady on Monday or Saturday we decided on Saturday even though it meant an
extra hour of driving time. Sister Anderson called the lady and told her that
we wanted to come and pay her a visit. She remembered Sister Anderson and said
that she would rearrange her schedule to accommodate us. We arrived at the
appointed time and had a good visit with her and her husband and presented them
with a Book of Mormon which we had personalized with a short testimony on the Inside
cover.
As we visited we learned that they were leaving for
Florida the next day, were in the process of selling their house and would not
likely be back in Kansas. Had we waited until Monday it would have been too
late! We left our names, telephone number and Boise Address along with our
testimony. We hope to hear from them again someday, pray that we will.
I don’t know, but I have a feeling the Lord has had a
hand in all of this. Sometimes the Holy Ghost will impress us to do something
without us really knowing why at the time. This was the case in Elder Gene R
Cook’s story in the previous post and a post I shared earlier concerning
remarks Elder Bednar gave at the MTC some time ago.
