One of the
things that is kind of unique in Mound City, Kansas is they have a thrift store
where almost everything in the store is priced at 50 cents. Actually when we
first came out here, everything was priced at 25 cents and then last summer they
raised the prices to 50 cents. I’ve bought
several ties there for 25 cents. I figured that was a pretty good buy since
ties can cost 25 dollars now. Goodbyes has them priced at one hundredth of the
going rate.
Out here I wear a tie every day, sometimes doing things that are not conducive to keeping a tie clean. But when I am wearing a tie I only paid 25 cents for, I don’t get overly concerned.

We decided to take Shaylor and Erica to Goodbyes just to see if they had anything that was of interest to them. When we walked into Goodbyes, I introduced them to a couple of ladies who volunteer there. These two ladies are sisters and I had done some family history work for one of the sisters as a birthday gift. Actually it turned out that we share a common ancestor with them, a Warren as I recall and so I had mentioned to them that we are distant cousins. When we introduced Erica and Shaylor it was fun because they made a big deal about us being related.
As we are
looking around at Goodbyes, the lady from the store next door who owns a flower
shop comes into the store and talks with Sister Anderson. Sister Anderson has
invited her to several Relief Society functions. She did come once and enjoyed
it. So Sister Anderson has gotten to know her somewhat and she asks Sister
Anderson if she would like to take some bouquets to some people in the Church
who need a lift. She gave us the bouquets and we took them to some of the
people we visit. Shaylor and Erica went with us to deliver the flowers and were
able to meet several of these good people. Three of the ladies we visited were
converts and one was an investigator. These ladies all have very interesting
life stories and can be fairly entertaining to talk to. Erica and Shaylor both
enjoyed those visits.
