A Retired Airline Pilot Invites Us Out To His Hangar

One of the people we have met at the fitness center is a retired Airline pilot. He has rebuilt one plane which he has flown all the way to Alaska and is currently building another plane. He invited us out to his hanger. This is very unusual for someone to have an Airplane hangar way out here in the country. In fact, Sister Anderson and I have commented on how we seldom see Airplanes out here. But then, we are used to living close to the Boise Airport. We go out to his hangar and he has six planes -  two of his own (one of which is only half built) and four that belong to other people. He has his own runway on about 80 acres of land. We had a nice visit with him as he talked about the history of the different planes in his hangar. He told us of a friend of his who was a member of the Church, and I offered to help him with his family history. He talked like he would be offering to take us for a ride in his plane. I don’t think it is running right now, so that may be a future experience. I wasn’t sure if we were allowed to ride in little planes like that while on the mission, I know the young missionaries would not be permitted to do that. So when we were visiting with the Mission President, I asked him about it and he said just what I thought, the young missionaries would not be permitted to do that, but he was not aware of any provision that would prevent senior missionaries from going on such a ride.
