Sister Anderson assumes the role of mother, but just for one evening.

Sister Anderson was contacted by a sister in the branch who was out of town. This sister explained that the Young Women were having a mother daughter activity and wanted to know if Sister Anderson would sit in for her for that evening’s activity. At the time the activity was planned to be held at the church which is only two miles away. The night of the event Sister Anderson gets a call that the location of the activity was changed to a member’s home that lives in a town up north. It’s thirty minutes away and would be dark for the return drive. Sister Anderson was a little nervous, and actually I was a little nervous for her, because she has done very little driving since we have arrived. She attempted to persuade me to go with her, but I thought she needs to learn this area sometime.  (I know what you are thinking, but she is your companion you need to stay together.) For senior couples that is not the case! The senior couple that preceded us said that it was not uncommon for one of them to be involved with something in the Branch and the other doing something else. I gave her a fast lesson on the GPS and off she went. She made it there and back, and all is well.

 

Serving in a branch like this, we are learning to appreciate how fortunate we are to have everything so close out west. Sister Anderson drove 30 miles through the country each way to basically attend a Young Women’s activity that lasted about an hour and a half. In Boise we were less than 2 miles from the Temple, here the Temple is a little over an hour and a half away. The Saints that live here need to be pretty dedicated.
