The branch did a giving
tree for needy families. Sister Anderson and I were asked to help with this
along with another couple. We put up a tree with decorations and the
decorations listed items that members of a needy family could use. Then the
members of the branch took the ornament that listed the item needed and went
and purchased it. All the purchased items were brought in today. The branch
also prepared food baskets for several families. So we spent some time after
church wrapping gifts and preparing the food baskets. We were at the church for
about 7 hours today and now we have boxes and gifts to deliver to the needy
families.
It is interesting many
of the members of the branch don’t have a lot of money. Yet up North in Johnson
County which is still in the stake members are pretty well to do. I think I
mentioned in an earlier post that Linn County where we live is the poorest
county in the State of Kansas and Johnson County is the richest and both
counties are within the Stake boundaries. Well the people up north are very
good to share what they have with those less well off in our little branch. One
of the Stakes up north spent as much as $100 per person on the needy families
of the branch. I know the Lord admonishes us to take care of the poor, out here
the people really do seem to take that to heart.
