A Man Who Truly Loves His Wife

I suppose because we are human, we often develop in our minds stereotypes of what couples that are paired together, should look like. There is a couple out here who does a lot for the branch, really good people, but I would not normally guess that they were man and wife.

The husband is tall, self assured and well-spoken. His wife is short, stocky and has talents that are less noticeable, and if I was not aware they were man and wife, I would not have pictured them together. It is very evident that the husband has a great love for his wife. In priesthood meeting on Sunday, the lesson was on our role as Husbands. This man made a comment about his wife and was very emotional in expressing what great love he had for her. I was very impressed.  I am thinking, I know his wife and she is a nice lady, but also has traits that are somewhat bothersome. This couple married right out of high school and converted to the Church fairly early in their marriage. He said that early in their marriage a Bishop gave some wise council to his wife. He told her to only focus on her husband’s “good qualities”. He said at the time, his good qualities may have been difficult to identify, because he didn’t think he had very many. But, he said, it made a difference, it made him want to be better and he started to notice his wife’s good qualities. After all these years he truly loves his wife and I believe he likely only sees the good in her. I am sure much of our happiness in life is determined by what we chose to focus on and we are blessed when we focus on the good.
