Still Trying To Help Our Catholic Friend With Family History

While I have had some success helping several friends out here with their family history, I am still trying to assist a Catholic Friend that serves with us as a reading buddy. Both of her parents immigrated to the United States from Germany. I looked online for a phone number so that I could contact one of our a Church family history consultants. I was particularly interested in finding someone with expertise in searching out Germany ancestry. When I called the number I had found, I was surprised when someone answered from the Riverton, Utah Family History Center. I had been there several times in the past while in Utah visiting family, since it is right next to my hometown of Bluffdale. However, I kind of anticipated that the phone number would take me to the family history center in Salt Lake City. I told the lady I talked to that I was looking for some help from someone with expertise in German family history. After several calls and conversations, the person that responded was a Brother Joos. It turns out that he was the Bishop of the Bluffdale Ward that some of my siblings attended and the Bishop that presided over my 2^nd mother’s funeral. It is a small world!

Brother Joos was able to provide some advice and gave me the contact information for the archive in Germany that has the information we are looking for. I emailed the Catholic archive and they emailed back indicating the charges for the various services they provide. It is amazing how much our church provides as a free service while everybody else seems to charge for their services. So I am still working on this little challenge, but I am somewhat optimistic that we will be able to help our Catholic friend.
