One of our
friends who we got to know over the summer at the Wednesday barbeque has a goat
farm. Actually this person and her son were the ones who sponsored the weekly
barbecue over the summer and the owners of the lot on the lake where it was
held. We saw the son at the gas station and he asked if we wanted any turnips.
He said he had plenty and he was about to till his garden. I remember really
not liking turnips as a child but then Linda’s Aunt Dorothy had served them for
breakfast when we had stayed there, and I thought the way she prepared them,
they tasted okay. So I suggested to Sister Anderson that we go get some turnips
and experiment with preparing them several ways. I also thought this would be a
good opportunity to visit these friends and since Shaylor and Erica were
visiting with us, it would allow them to meet one of our potential
investigators. We all went out to the goat farm and had a good visit with these
friends. The son has a wealth of information on goat farming and Shaylor was
interested in that. Erica had a good visit with the mom. We felt blessed that
we were able to make some missionary contacts while Shaylor and Erica were
visiting. I think they really enjoyed meeting several of our friends while they
were out here on their visit.
I had
completed a family history fan chart for the mother over the summer and we had
talked some with her about religion in general but have not yet taught her the
message of the restored gospel. I had offered several times to help her get set
up on the church's Family Search site, but after the summer she was busy with
family visiting from out of town and also had some health issues.
Then last
Friday we attended a local high school play (The Ransom of Emily Jane) that our
Baptist friends had invited us to. This mother was also in attendance and when
we greeted her, she said, "After Thanksgiving I want you to come over and help me
get set up on family search." I told her we would be happy to do that.
The play was
fun and it turns out that one of our neighbors performed the role of the town
gossip in the play.
