Proselytizing & Fellowshipping At The High School Basketball Game

While the local high school football team had a difficult year, the basketball team is pretty good this year, I believe they are leading their league. We went to one of the games several weeks ago for our Friday night date. We always see people from the community we know at the games, so it is just another opportunity to meet and greet people. One of the families that we have been sharing Preach My Gospel discussions with, have a daughter who is in elementary school but was going to perform during the half time of the high school basketball game. So we decided to attend the game to support her performance. It was the same night as a Relief Society function, so I went to the game and Sister Anderson went to the Relief Society function and then left early to watch the half time performance.

While at the game, I met a retired doctor who lives here in town and had a good conversation with him. I explained to him that we were out here on a mission for eighteen months. He was an orthopedic surgeon up in the city, but developed a heart condition and so he now raises quarter horses and cattle on eleven hundred acres just outside of town.

Our Baptist friends were at that game and came and sat with us. Then the family we have been teaching came as well as the grandparents of the girl performing. They sat next to us on the other side from the Baptists. A lady we know from the fitness center sat behind us and in front of us was the activity coordinator for one of the retirement centers where we serve. And in addition to the daughter of the family we have been teaching, several of our reading buddies from the elementary school were also in the halftime performance. So we are beginning to get to know a number of people in this little community.
