Attended A Track Meet To Watch An Adopted Daughter

I have been a little slow writing our children an email and posting that on the blog this week.

Normally I do that on Monday which is typically is our Preparation Day. However, last Monday we attended a track meet which ended up lasting 5 hours, plus it was about an hour drive each way to and from the track meet. We attended the track meet to watch one of the young women in the branch compete in several events. Sister Anderson refers to this young lady as her adopted daughter since she was once asked to sit in for this young lady’s mother who was out of town at the time. Sister Anderson served as proxy mother for this young lady during a young women’s mother/daughter activity shortly after we arrived out here, and we have been close to her ever since. She is a special young lady and a good representative for the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.

Well, it turned out that this young lady’s events were basically the first and last events of the meet. She participated in the high jump, the 800 and a relay. The high jump was first and the relay was the last event of the meet. The track meet was held at a school in a remote location out in the middle of the plains. The location had no trees or buildings for wind breaks and so the wind blew pretty hard the entire time we were there, which ended up being 5 hours. This young lady got second place in the 800. She didn’t place in the high jump even though she usually does really well in that event. I suspect she was affected by the wind which was pretty intense.

Actually another young lady in our branch that attends a different school got first place in the pole vault. These were 7th and 8th graders but they had them doing some of the field events and pole vault was one of them.
