The Independence Visitor's Center

The Historical Sites we have visited most with the Children are Liberty Jail and the Independence Visitor's Center.  Those are the two closest Church historical sites to Mound City, Kansas where we serve. Several of the children have asked if we were getting bored visiting the same historical sites so many times. However each time we go, it seems I learn something new. In the Independence Visitor's Center, the sister missionaries share a little of the history of the Saint's short stay in independence. They have a replica of a pioneer log cabin in the basement of the Visitor's Center, which I am guessing is 12 ft. by12 ft., about a third of the cabin has a small loft. They explained that when the Saints first arrived in Independence, 10 families would be staying in a cabin that size.

The early Saints truly sacrificed a lot for the gospel's sake. When Tara, Brady and Ruth visited we got our own private showing of “Meet the Mormons” in one of the theaters in the visitors center. It turns out that Brady and Ruth had not seen the movie, so it was special to see that again.

Meet the Mormons is now available on YouTube for anyone who has not yet seen it.

The upstairs part of the Independence Visitor's Center includes a segment on the family that is pretty special.
