Our Evangelical
protestant friend that we have been meeting with for some time flew out to
Arizona to visit his brother for a week. After he got back, he shared with us
an experience he had. We have been meeting with him for 3 or 4 months so he has
met the young missionaries and knows a fair amount about us by now. He said
that one day while out in Arizona he decided to take a walk around the
neighborhood. As he walked he looked up the street and saw what he thought
looked like two of our missionaries, but they were pretty short. He thought
maybe they were midget missionaries. As he got closer he realized they were
young boys. As he described this, we realized they were two of our deacons out
collecting fast offerings. He visited with them a bit and was fairly impressed with
their comments; they handled themselves well and knew their stuff. He said one
was a little shy, but the more talkative one did a good job of responding to
his questions. It is always refreshing when we hear good things about members
of the Church. It is even more impressive to hear that report come back on
several of our 12 year old deacons.
This gave us an
opportunity to talk about fast offerings and tithing and how that works in the
Church. So if you know of a couple of deacons who were out collecting fast
offerings on the first of February and ran into an evangelical from Kansas who
asked them questions, tell them thanks from us. We never know when we are being
watched by others curious about our faith.
