It snowed almost all day
on Saturday and we were lucky as we got our early morning walk around the golf
course in before it started snowing so heavily. We still got snowed on a fair
amount. We believe we got about six inches of snow, which is the most snow we
have had since we have been out here. When it snows out here, people just kind
of hunker up inside, which makes it difficult to do missionary work.
We got up Sunday morning, got ready for church, and drove over for our 9:00 PEC meeting and when we
arrived we noticed there were no cars in the parking lot!
We have a key to the
building and so we go inside, it’s warm as if the building thinks we are going
to have church, but no one is there. We call the branch president and no
answer. We then called the Elders and they said that church had been cancelled.
When we got back home I checked our email and found an email had been sent to us
saying that there would be no church. I soon got a return call from the Branch
President saying he was sorry we didn’t get the message. He had asked one of
the members to call us, but he didn’t. I told the branch president that we
should have read our email. Next time we’ll know if it snows, they might cancel
church.
We actually only live
about 2 miles from the church building, so we are lucky, many of the members of
the branch have to travel long distances. My guess is the average commute to
church for our branch is 30 to 40 minutes. I believe there are currently only 4
active members of the branch that live in Mound City. There are also several
less active members that we have been trying to encourage to come out.
It is always pretty scenic
after a snowstorm so we came home and took our Sunday walk around our side of
the lake. We took several pictures.
