We
have a friend who is the security officer here at the Sugar Lakes where we
live. He is a member of the Community of Christ Church, but does not attend much
with them because of disappointment over all the changes they have made to
their beliefs. We have taught him on a number of occasions and shared some
information with him. When we gave him and his wife our Christmas gift, Sister
Anderson said, now your gift to us would be to come to Church. He agreed to do
that.
Several weeks later the young Elders met with him, and he just volunteered that he was coming to Church to meet his commitment to Sister Anderson. Then, several days later on a Friday evening, it was late at night and as we were pulling into our driveway, he pulled in behind us with his lights flashing and said, "You are under arrest." He was kidding of course. We had a conversation with him and he said he was coming to church. Then on Saturday of that week we saw him at the clubhouse social and again he said, "I will see you at church in the morning." Well he did not show up.
The following week, I called him and he said that his wife was sick and throwing up the morning when they were coming to church. So I invited them again for the next Sunday. It was our branch conference so a number of people from the Stake were coming. It turns out that he was true to his word and he and his wife showed up for Church. When you see people keeping commitments it is pretty special.
