Remember to ask, "Have
I seen the Hand of God in my life today?
Since we purchased the iPad, we often will show a short
Mormon message video to investigators, friends and people we meet. I haven’t
counted them but there are literally hundreds of Church produced videos, all on
the LDS Gospel Library, which is free to download. So often, if I have a few
minutes, I will watch one or more Church
videos, with the idea that as I identify those I really like, we can use them
for teaching moments. This morning
before Church, I happened to watch this one titled O Remember Remember, from a
talk by President Eyring.
This in turn brought to my remembrance the General Conference talk that this video was taken from. I remember at the time, I was very impressed with his talk and his dedication to keeping a short journal every day. I thought, of course, the Lord would want to call someone with that kind of dedication, to be one of his apostles.
My sister Jan had a special experience this past week that she shared in an email and in a phone conversation. In contemplating that, I thought of the message President Eyring received from the Lord, he said: “I heard in my mind—not in my own voice—these words: “I’m not giving you these experiences for yourself. Write them down.”
That caused him to record something at the end of each day, but it was not just a journal of happenings, because he said: Before I would write, I would ponder this question: “Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?”
I remember after hearing the talk, I thought our family should start a family blog, we set one up but, I was not disciplined at the time to follow through and keep it going. I still need to work on attaining President Eyring’s level of dedication. However after rereading his talk, I thought that is a question we should each be asking ourselves each day.
We often do not show the Lord our gratitude
for what he does for us, because we don’t take the time to recognize his hand
in our lives. This, of course, brings to mind the scripture in the Doctrine and
Covenants.

At the
end of each day I am going to try to adopt President Eyring’s practice of
asking: “Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to
touch us or our children or our family today?”
