Senior Missionary Dinner

Once a quarter the mission has a senior dinner for all the Senior Couples and the Single Sisters who are beyond the young missionary age. I believe there are about 25 Senior couples and 12 older sisters that attend this dinner. After each dinner the new couples introduce themselves and those about to go home bear their testimonies. One of the new couples shared this story. They were serving a mission in Oregon and while out on the mission he had bought a truck he liked and the plan was that his daughter would fly into Portland and drive the truck home. As this missionary couple were driving through a canyon to the airport a logging truck was coming down the canyon and couldn’t make the turn and tipped over, spilling the logs on the vehicle of the missionary couple. The Elder was driving and pinned in the vehicle. The sister was able to get out of the vehicle and walk around to the drivers side and yell at her husband who she thought was dead. At that point she saw his chest move. Rescuers came she had many injuries, broken bones and numerous injuries. It took them two hours to get him out of the vehicle, I can’t remember all the injuries he had but they were many and the doctors said there was no way he should have survived this accident. I believe he was in a coma for several months. At one point they had to remove the back of his scalp to relive the swelling on his brain. While they were healing the family members received calls from the brethren and were told that they had their parents names placed on the prayer rolls of all the temples in the world. Well they both survived, he had to relearn to do everything. He said he could not tell the story because he gets too emotional and it was obvious that he still suffers some from the accident. So she related the story. I cannot begin to relate the many miraculous events that took place. Now they are back out on a mission again, because they want to finish their mission! What great faith.

Just a little note about the Baptism last week

During our zone training last week one of the Zone Leaders said that he didn’t feel that he had much to do with the baptisms he has had on his mission. He said they were all people that were already prepared to receive the gospel.

Then one of our Elders spoke up and shared their experience with the sister that was just baptized. They explained that they found her name in the area book and the information was from several years back, and since she lived way out in the country, they figured that trying to contact her would just be a waste of their time and mileage allotment. However they did have a phone number and so they called it and she said they could come and visit. Two days prior to their call she was very down and anxious about her current life situation and prayed to God, that he would send someone to help her. She mentioned that she was also looking at a picture of her Grandmother who had passed away and felt maybe she was exerting some influence  on the other side to get her some help. She was taught the discussions and baptized in a little over a month from the time of that first contact. Some people are just waiting for the message of the restored gospel and Heavenly Father allows the missionaries to find them.
