Missionaries Get Black Boxes Called Tiwi, I Might Need One!

All our missionaries now have a little black box device installed in their vehicles called a Tiwi. It tracks basically everything the car does. It will indicate if they leave their area, if they are speeding, if they turn too sharp or if they accelerate too fast. So it pretty much monitors every place they go and everything about how they are driving the vehicle. This is being installed in all the vehicles in the US. A person from Salt Lake came out to explain how the program works. He mentioned that the device has reduced accident costs by half. That is pretty significant with all the missionaries we have serving. I believe all the missionaries in this mission have cars at least all the missionaries in our district and zone have cars.  I believe I heard that some of the sister companionships that serve in the visitors centers share a car.

He mentioned that the Church has the largest privately held fleet in the United States and the fleet is in the top 25 in the world.

President Vest had received training on the program and they had him test drive using the device for a while. He said he found it to be pretty accurate. I guess during the training they shared some of the results of the monitoring. I guess a couple of sisters (not in our mission) held the record for speeding. They were tracked travelling 116 miles an hour in a Toyota Corolla. I guess we really do need to watch out for women drivers. ;)

Senior Missionaries are not equipped with the Black Box since they drive their own cars. However after the presentation on the Tiwi, I said to Sister Anderson maybe we should request one.  Even though I have done a better job of watching my speed, I did get pulled over again the Saturday of General Conference.  I was going down the hill from where we live, all excited about messages we heard and trying to get several things done prior to the Priesthood Session.  A county sheriff pulled me over and said I was going too fast down the hill.  Again I was blessed with just a warning.  Still not a good example for a missionary.
