One
of the things we do a fair amount of on the mission is pray. We pray in the
mornings and evenings and before we go out. We often offer a special prayer prior
to visiting someone in their home. We pray in the homes of the people we visit
and we pray in the meetings we attend. Sister Anderson and I typically take
turns praying. However, we pray enough during the day that I often can’t recall
whose turn it is to pray. It will often seem to me that it is Sister Anderson’s
turn, since I am thinking I just said the last prayer. Sister Anderson is
thinking she was the last one to prayed. Last week I was thinking about this
conversation the two of us have had about whose turn it is, and each of us
thinking it is the other person’s turn to pray. It made me question my attitude
or motive regarding prayer. I kind of asked myself, could I ever pray too much?
I thought, I should consider it a blessing if I got an extra turn to pray. With
that self talk, I decided that I really need to improve my attitude as I
approach our Heavenly Father with the recognition that it is a special
privilege to be able to take matters before the supreme creator of the
universe. To think that our Heavenly Father truly loves us, cares about us and
wants us to thank him, and show our gratitude to him for all that he has done
for us. He stands ready to provide us with answers to our prayers and assist us
in those things we petition him for as we ask in faith. I need to remember at
all times what a special privilege it is to be able to pray to the Supreme
Being in the universe.
