We met with
our friend John last week. I call him "John" because his facial features remind
me of John Denver. This friend of ours also happens to play the guitar and
sing. He tells us that he believes what we have taught him, but he is not yet
ready to make the commitments required of members. We reviewed with him parts
of the first and second lessons from Preach My Gospel and shared a video by
Elder Bednar on receiving revelation. He believes now he needs to learn to make
and keep commitments.
He told us that he and several of his musical
friends would be playing country music as a benefit to help raise money for children in homes where there is not enough money to pay the heating bills. He
invited us to attend, we told him that our son and daughter would be in town
and we would all attend. We arrived and introduced Shaylor and Erica to John
and then sat down to listen to the music. John didn’t tell us that there also
would be country dancing, but that was alright with Shaylor, he is not shy when
it comes to country dancing and he is pretty good. He was able to get both
Erica and Sister Anderson out on the dance floor, while I watched it all from a
safe distance. It turned out to be a good evening. Our friends, the mayor and
his wife from a neighboring town came and sat next to us. They caught us up
with what is going on in their lives and their new grandchild. The mayor’s wife
said she had been thinking of us and we agreed to come by and visit them.
